Rescue Diver

The SSI Rescue Diver course is one of the most important and rewarding certifications in your diving career. Over 2-3 days, you'll develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence to prevent and manage diving emergencies, both for yourself and others.

The course begins with academic sessions covering rescue theory: recognizing diver stress, accident prevention, emergency management systems, first aid fundamentals, and the psychology of rescue. You'll learn to identify potential problems before they become emergencies and understand the rescue process from recognition through to post-incident care.

Confined water training focuses on practical rescue skills: self-rescue techniques, panicked diver response, underwater search patterns, surfacing unconscious divers, in-water artificial respiration, and towing procedures. You'll practice these skills repeatedly until they become second nature.

Open water scenarios simulate real emergencies, testing your ability to manage multiple problems simultaneously. You'll respond to simulated panicked divers, unresponsive divers at depth, missing diver searches, and surface emergencies. These realistic drills build true confidence and capability.

Upon successful completion, you'll earn the SSI Rescue Diver certification — a prerequisite for all professional-level certifications including Divemaster and Instructor. More importantly, you'll become a safer, more aware dive buddy capable of handling emergencies with composure and effectiveness.
